The literal interpretation of the name (Sanseiru / Sanseru) means 36. The numerical significance is important as it can refer to the number of steps, positions of attack / defense or the vital points of the body.
Research has uncovered that Sanseiru kata was one of the four kata taught by Higashionna Kanryo to the founder of Goju Ryu, Chojun Miyagi.
To the uninitiated, the techniques in this kata seem basic, direct and hard. Factual understanding will reveal that the kata is premised on the principles of close range defense and attack. Striking to vital points of the body can have a devastating impact. Joint / knee locks, kicks and throws are combined in a flowing and circular fashion to totally incapacitate the attacker.
The Master Class will cover:
· The Yonshin Kai advanced version of the kata
· Bunkai (visible and hidden) techniques
· Kata principles and evolution
